$1.56 + .25 cents = 64,000 gallons per annum or 175 gallons per day.

Under the new Ordinance, the occupier will

be entitled to an allowance equal to 2%, the cost of the water

being .40 cents per 1,000 gallons.

$12 x 2 = $0.24

$0.24 + .40 cents = 60,000 gallons per annum or 164 gallons per day or a difference of 11 gallons per day only.

Paragraph 4.(3). The charge per excess consumption

has been increased from .25 cents to .50 cents per 1,000 gallons. Mr. Chadwick recommended (vide paragraph 50 of his "Report

on the Sanitation of Hongkong", dated 10th April, 1902) that

the price should be at least .50 cents per 1,000 gallons.

Powers are taken to increase the price up to $1.00, but there

is no intention of enforcing such a charge at present. In any

case, the charge can only be altered by the Governor in

Council.
